In 2013, Casey Mazzucchi and Ariana Strozzi, both sheep ranchers, decided it was time for a wool mill in our area. While sheep have been a part of the localeconomy for many years (mostly grown for meat) sheep ranchers used to throw their wool away because they perceived that it did not have value. Casey and Ariana knew their wool was too valuable to toss away, and so began to make wool bedding and yarn with their dorset wool. As their love for wool expanded to felting and other useful wool products, these two decided that Valley Ford was the perfect place for a wool mill, since not only are much of the wool is grown in this region, there are also numerous wool artisans nearby.
Grace would have it that the perfect old barn would become available to house not only the wool mill, but a store front where wool products and other local, country gifts could be available to the public. Our storefront has not only SkyHorse wool products, but also Pendelton Wool, local weavers, felters, cowgirl accessories, local canned goods, jewelry and pottery.
We are located in downtown Valley Ford (population 126) on Coastal Hwy 1 between Tomales and Bodega Bay. Valley Ford is on the border of Marin and Sonoma County, just 25 minutes west of Petaluma and Santa Rosa.
